We aim for a fairer and more humane world, where everyone can live their lives in dignity, freedom and equality, while fostering a relationship of harmony and respect towards Nature.

We are the Fundação Gonçalo da Silveira, a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGOD), and we believe in the need for change and a rebalancing of the world. To that end, we implement projects in the fields of Global Citizenship, Development, Integral Ecology, and the Right to Quality Education. Occasionally, through our international networks, we also participate in Humanitarian Emergency initiatives.

Founded on the 1st of April 2004 by the Portuguese Province of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), the Fundação Gonçalo da Silveira is officially acknowledged as an Institution of Public Benefit.

To fight inequality and social injustice through the development of a concept of Global Citizenship which promotes the common good, and contributes towards change in situations that generate poverty at local and global levels.

Social and Justice Transformation

To be and to act with those around us, who accompany and inspire us, responding in a collaborative way and with a sense of urgency to the challenges that jeopardize the common good, social justice and harmony in the relationship with Nature.

To reflect critically, deepen and disseminate knowledge and practices in the field of Social and Justice Transformation, in favor of socio-political participation that promotes the well-being of communities and deconstructs narratives that generate social injustice.

To promote processes of co-learning and dialogue between people, communities and institutions for justice and social transformation.

To connect and mobilize people, communities and institutions for a sense of Global Citizenship that strengthens an active participation in society.

To establish dialogue and critical reflection about the structural causes of social injustices at local and global levels.
